An iPhone offers plenty of enjoyable and informative apps to its users

Recycling a mobile phone this month can have a number of advantages, such as raising a little extra cash before Christmas.

However, those who are more interested in splashing out on a superior model – such as the iPhone 4 – will be in a position to enjoy the top apps of the week, as identified by technology website Electricpig.co.uk.

One of the first features it mentions is Rock Band Reloaded, which it describes as "awesome".

Also on the list of top apps is Smartr, a free download that allows iPhone users to read and use Twitter in a "brilliant way".

The website goes on to nominate Viber as a particularly shrewd free addition to a mobile, as it offers a way of making calls to other people without the need for a username and password.

A favourite with iPhone users is the Angry Birds game, which is due to be given a Christmas makeover and released for the festive season.
