People who recycle a mobile phone for money and put the cash towards a replacement may wish to consider which of the UK's networks provides the fastest 3G connection.
The Daily Telegraph reports on a study by top10.com, which finds Vodafone offers the most rapid speeds when it comes to browsing the internet via a handset.
It has collected rates from around the country provided by each of the leading networks, before comparing the data.
Vodafone's average speed of 3.04 MB makes it the clear winner, followed by O2, Orange and Three, the newspaper explains.
Harry Jones, director at top10.com, says: "With the rise of data-hungry smartphones, tablets and netbooks, we expect 3G to become as essential as home broadband in the years ahead."
According to the most recent YouGov poll on the subject, Three is the UK's favourite mobile broadband provider, with speed, reliability and price all taken into consideration.
Julie Snape, head of marketing at Envirofone, says: "Internet browsing is one of the most used smartphone functions. If you want to upgrade to a handset that provides faster internet speeds, you could trade-in your old handset for cash."
