Man connects to A-listers via BlackBerry
16 February 2009 — 1:05 PM
A man who purchased a used mobile phone on eBay found himself well-connected due to its contacts list, it has been revealed.
Kent Devey, 28, bought a BlackBerry using the auction site and discovered its previous owner had not deleted the memory.
It contained digits for celebrities such as Julie Walters, Jude Law and Natalie Portman - but Devey said he did not think they were real until he heard Walters' voicemail.
"I wanted a BlackBerry so I could receive emails," he explained. "I never expected I'd be able to email celebrities!"
After he offered to return the phone to the company where its former owner worked - Stephen Daldry Pictures - the firm said it would give him a replacement model as well as complementary stage show tickets.
The story may remind those looking to recycle mobile phones to ensure all numbers are erased from the gadget's memory or stored on the Sim card instead of the handset.
