This week sees the launch of a new handset from 3 Mobile which combines a range of features centred on social networking.
It is reported that the INQ1, a phone which will be available exclusively from selected 3Stores across the UK, generated interest from over 50,000 people - before an official announcement had been made about its release.
Equipped with an integrated RSS feed reader, 3.2 megapixel camera and free Skype-to-Skype calling, the INQ1 is claimed by 3 to be the most advanced social networking-focused handset available.
Special access to Facebook, Skype, Windows Live Messenger and Last.fm are some of the extras that Kevin Russell, chief executive of 3 in the UK, suggests may make it a popular choice for those shopping for the latest phones.
"With this phone you can keep track of your Facebook friends all day, every day as part of your ordinary phone usage," he added.
For consumers selling old mobile phones, a number of the latest contracts available from various providers feature free access to social networking websites.
