Virgin Media appoints new head of music
8 April 2009 — 2:00 PM
Virgin Mobile customers could see an increased focus on multimedia with the appointment of a new executive at the firm.
It was announced this week that Richard Wheeler, who has previously worked at Orange in a similar role, will join Virgin Media as the company's new head of music.
During his time with Orange, he was able to successfully deliver a range of music and film services to users of its latest phones by negotiating with various labels, publishers, studios and artists.
It is hoped that Mr Wheeler will be able to continue this success as part of Virgin Media's latest strategy to "bring innovative new services to consumers, across mobile, TV and online".
Jon James, director of broadband at the company, commented that the background of the company, along with its recent technological developments meant it was "uniquely well-placed" to deliver such products.
In the past, the company has lent its name to Virgin Records, V2 and a chain of high street music and video stores.
