The launch of the Sky+ Remote Record application was announced this week for the iPhone 3G and could prove to be the deciding factor for those recycling mobile phones in order to buy a new model.
Available from the manufacturer's online App Store, the software is a free download that can access Sky+ and Sky+HD set-top boxes remotely and record from anywhere in the world.
Stephen van Rooyen, the media provider's director of product management and marketing, said there were a number of situations where the application could prove useful.
"Whether youre stuck at work, in the pub or gym, or have simply forgotten to record something, this free application is perfect for those situations when you hear about a TV show and want to record it there and then," he added.
The Apple iPhone 3G is available on both contract and pay-as-you-go packages exclusively from O2.
