One writer has looked at how recycling mobile phones can benefit the user, the planet and the pocket.
In a recent article for the Halesowen News website, it is noted that those looking to upgrade their phones this Christmas should make sure they find a good home.
The publications states that recycling handsets can prevent used mobile phones being taken to landfill where they can spend the rest of their life "leaking toxins into the earth" and adds there are some other benefits to be considered.
It goes on to recommend considering the financial incentives involved and suggests charitable donations are also a good way to spend the cash you receive.
"Depending on how bling your lifestyle is, some phones can earn up to £200 - but, in the words of a large conglomerate, 'every little helps'," it concludes.
Charities mentioned as in need of donations during the festive season include Amnesty International, Trees for Cities, Greener Solutions and Oxfam.
