The W995 was recently added to the Walkman line up

Some music lovers may find the new Sony Ericsson W508 right up their street - while others may want to look elsewhere in the range, a new review states.

In an article for Cnet, Irene Mickaiel looks at the latest entry into the manufacturer's line of audio-focussed handsets and notes that it carries some interesting traits.

Using the W508's media player is described as "a joy" and the reviewer goes on to praise the smoothness of the playback and the clarity with which the included headphones perform.

"At one point, to our embarrassment, we thought the sound was playing through the headphones when the boss told us to keep it down. [Little] did we realise it was playing through the speakers," Ms Mickaiel added.

However, the article concludes by saying that although the W508 is clearly "a very good mp3 player with a few games" that will please many users, it does little to stand out from the crowd of its other Walkman siblings.

Current models in this range include the recently-launched W995 and W595.
