There are clear money-saving benefits for companies, small businesses and entrepreneurs to enjoy by acting in a more efficient manner, it has been claimed.
In addition to recycling mobile phones, many eco-friendly options exist that could help people cut energy bills - and one expert has said people should be aware of these.
A spokesman for BusinessGreen.com, an online publication which specialises in the field of improving environmental practices, said it may not seem easy to change the way technology is implemented - but it is worthwhile.
James Murray, editor of the site, suggests there are effective, cost-saving options open to firms that can result in "knocking five or six-figure sums off of energy bills, if not more".
"There's plenty of evidence that green IT is one of the few functioners in the IT market that seems to be relatively robust," he adds.
A recently published report suggested central government needed to speed up its strategies for reducing carbon emissions.
