The latest smartphone to be released on the Orange network has today (July 23rd) hit the UK market for the first time.

Known as the HTC Hero, the handset comes complete with a five megapixel camera and in-built GPS system.

It is ideal for those who like gadgets on their mobile phone, as it also boasts a compass and Google's Android operating system.

Those thinking of selling their old mobile phone for the new device may also be interested to know it comes complete with 16GB of memory, giving the capacity to store lots of photos, songs and videos.

Ahead of its launch, Francois Mahieu, director of devices at Orange UK, commented: "We believe the Hero is a great all round device which will allow consumers to get to grips with all the things they love about the internet, whilst on the move."

He expected the handset to prove a hit with mobile phone users and said more Android devices could be on the cards for Orange in the near future.
