Opera Mini displayed over ten billion mobile internet pages during last month and the firm welcomed around 26.5 million unique users - an increase of 4.2 per cent on May figures.

The State of the Mobile Web report, which was published by the firm that makes the software, showed its servers processed over 346 million pages every day and overall page views had seen growth of 224 per cent.

Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive officer of Opera, said the figures underscored the popularity of the mobile internet and indicated how it will perform in the future.

"Web standards provide a more efficient way to create flawless sites across all devices. This strategy … is more important than ever before as more people will view more pages on all manner of mobile phones," he added.

Other options for mobile web browsing include Internet Explorer for those with Windows-enabled smartphones, while Android users have access to a dedicated Google system.
