Green expert advises the 'many reasons to recycle mobiles'

There are a number of reasons why consumers looking for the latest phones should avoid discarding their used handsets.

Jennifer Berry of states the impending seasonal celebrations, environmental concerns and fears of an economic downturn all mean recycling mobile phones makes good sense.

She notes that many people will be expecting new devices for Christmas but, despite this, people can not afford to let used mobiles sit in a "shoebox in the garage".

"Cell phones are still a hot ticket item for gifts. As consumers look to purchase new phones, being aware of reuse and recycling options is a must," Ms Berry adds.

She notes that obtaining cash for used mobiles can also encourage people to trade in their old devices and suggests the newer the phone, the more money the recycler can expect.

It was reported by the Maidenhead Advertiser this week that Thames Hospicecare had launched a new charity drive to get people to hand in their used mobiles to raise funds for its institutions.
