HTC Smart 'exclusive to O2'
17 February 2010 — 7:28 PM
People recycling mobile phones to upgrade to the HTC Smart in the UK have been told that O2 is the network that the handset will be available on.
O2 made the announcement, ahead of the HTC Smart's April release date in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
Peter Chou, chief executive officer of the handset's developer HTC, says: "More and more people are craving advanced mobile phone experiences with email, web browsing and social networking."
However, he adds that "the cost and complexity often represent a significant obstacle for many".
While Mr Chou suggests that the HTC Smart offers an affordable means of accessing smartphone-like capabilities, anyone with an existing handset could find that recycling mobile phones for cash is a further way of offsetting the cost.
Even damaged and broken mobile phones can be recycled for cash, with more than half of their trade-in value available for handsets that are not working.
