Sony Ericsson working on a Playstation phone?
10 March 2010 — 3:50 PM
Gaming fans could be excited to hear rumours that Sony Ericsson may be working on the development of a Playstation handset.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the mobile manufacturer is working on a smartphone that is able to play Playstation games and compete with products such as the Apple iPhone.
Hirokazu Ishizuka, corporate vice-president and head of Asia-Pacific for the handset maker, stopped short of confirming the plans but did hint that something was underway.
"What I can say today is that what we're trying to do is make sure our users can enjoy PlayStation gaming titles with our phones. We're not ready to mention anything about that [handset]," he said.
Currently phones such as the iPhone allow for a huge range of games to be downloaded by users direct to their phone and played while on the move.
Dan Grabham, deputy editor of TechRadar, recently suggested that the iPhone's popularity is partly due to the range of free apps it has available.
