Text registration service offers new way to connect
26 January 2009 — 6:30 PM
A new service is enabling those with the latest phones to get talking to the people they fancy, it has emerged.
MYPL8 is a social networking website which allows participants to get in touch with others using their car registration plate.
The idea is that when a user takes a liking to someone, they can text their registration plate to the site, where the message will be relayed to the person in question.
However, contact details are only divulged by participants who wish to do so at a later stage - and the service claims to remain "completely anonymous" until this happens.
Euan Williamson, founder of the company, said: "We don't promise to help people find the partner of their dreams but it is happening. Others are making friends or simply chatting with owners of similar cars."
According to the MYPL8 website, drivers are discouraged to text while behind the wheel and members are advised to use the site "for fun and friendship" only.
