Apple iPhone 4S 5 Stars

« Back to reviews Apple iPhone 4S

Look and feel

The iPhone 4S manages to offer a smooth and strong experience inside and out. It looks great and has the most responsive touchscreen we’ve experienced to date.

Ease of use

iOS has plenty to offer – even if you don’t get the same customisation found on Android handsets – and is smooth when carrying out tasks from writing emails and using voice commands to set your alarms to loading a map.

Features

It may not look very different, but there are more changes to be found under the bonnet, including the more powerful 1GHz chip and faster graphics. The camera, with its eight-megapixel lens, impresses too. But the main alteration is iOS 5, which offers storage via iCloud.

Performance

Apps load and run speedily – and that onscreen keyboard still beats those on other handsets.

Battery life

Much improved from the iPhone 4 – a full battery lasted all day, with use of GPS and web browsing – better than other high-end smarties too.

Pros:
Most responsive screen ever; handy notifications bar; excellent camera; fantastic choice of apps; top hardware.
Cons:
The best additions come via iOS 5, which you can download onto an iPhone 4; iCloud storage has to be paid for after 5GB.
Rating:
  • Look and Feel 5 Stars
  • Ease of use 5 Stars
  • Features 4 Stars
  • Performance 4 Stars
  • Battery life 4 Stars

Final verdict: 5 Stars

The star of the show is iOS 5, even though the phone itself is powerful and looks good.
