HTC Desire S 4 Stars
Look and feel
The Desire S sits smoothly in the hand, thanks to its aluminium unibody, which has a retro look with its matt rubber additions and rounded edges.
Ease of use
Android Gingerbread offers a better performance and the touch-display is more responsive – the virtual keyboard is whizzier too. We’re also fans of the HTC Sense interface.
The features list is just what you’d hope for from a smartphone – sat-nav, camera, email, social networking and internet which lives up to the desktop offering – however we will see better handsets in the near future.
A smooth and speedy user experience combine with good multitasking, although we didn’t always get email alerts.
Battery life is slightly improved thanks to the slightly larger battery – but you’ll still be charging at the end of every day.
- Faster keyboard and touch-display, improved battery life, smoother app processing.
- Email and text alerts didn’t always appear; features may seem old hat by the year-end.
- Look and Feel 4 Stars
- Ease of use 4 Stars
- Features 4 Stars
- Performance 4 Stars
- Battery life 4 Stars
Final verdict: 4 Stars
A simple-to-use Android handset that benefits from a number of extras that we now expect from HTC – but it fails to excite and will have to compete with the superphones later this year.
