LG Optimus Black 3 Stars
Look and feel
The screen responds really well and we enjoyed using the gesture controls – but we did have some problems with screen lock. The menus too, proved somewhat tricky.
Ease of use
Under the chassis sits a 1GHz processor, which punches out enough power for the A-GPS, Wi-Fi and five-megapixel camera. The 4in screen sports LG’s NOVA technology.
The Optimus Black is definitely slender, and looks good with its glossy black finish – just be prepared to be let down by the Teflon covering on the back.
It seemed odd that the 1GHz processor was so sluggish – plus we kept losing our Wi-Fi connection, But we loved the screen and the images we got from the snapper.
A charge will be needed every day – even though LG claims that its NOVA screen uses less power than the usual LCD displays.
- The NOVA display is impressively vibrant and is easy to see even outside.
- Android 2.2 is out of date, loading webpages is slow; unreliable Wi-Fi.
- Look and Feel 4 Stars
- Ease of use 3 Stars
- Features 4 Stars
- Performance 3 Stars
- Battery life 4 Stars
Final verdict: 3 Stars
You’d expect a smoother experience if paying this kind of money, but we were impressed by the display.
