Palm Pre 2 4 Stars

« Back to reviews Palm Pre 2

Look and feel

When it’s closed the Palm Pre 2 has the appearance of a smooth pebble and it looks just as good when you open it.

Ease of use

The user interface is rather unusual and takes a while to get used to, but then is enjoyable in use. The rather cramped QWERTY keyboard takes some care to use.

Features

Lots of features on offer with the likes of A-GPS, HSDPA and Wi-Fi, as well as a 1GHz processor, access to apps in the Palm App Catalog and a five-megapixel camera.

Performance

The Palm Pre 2 offers a great user experience, apart from its mediocre camera offering.

Battery life

You’ll need to keep an eye on how many power-hungry apps you run at the same time as a fully charged battery comes up with 330 minutes of talktime and 350 hours on standby.

Pros:
The user interface is unusual but fun to use, the processor is speedy, the touch-screen responsive, really accurate A-GPS and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
Cons:
Some major omission (such as a native Twitter client) and a small choice of apps may put off iPhone or Android users.
Rating:
  • Look and Feel 4 Stars
  • Ease of use 4 Stars
  • Features 4 Stars
  • Performance 4 Stars
  • Battery life 3 Stars

Final verdict: 4 Stars

Palm has created a smart-looking device that has lots of features. The dearth of apps available is a bit of a letdown.
