New HTC: Expect the unexpected

A new handset has emerged that might offer something unexpected for those recycling mobile phones, if its manufacturer is to be believed.

HTC unveiled more details regarding its new HD2 model this week, explaining some of the various features that the gadget comes equipped with.

One aspect of the smartphone that was discussed was enhanced options for personalising the model across its "window like" 4.3-inch screen. These include animated weather news and compatibility with the Windows Marketplace.

The communicative tools of the HD2 noted were editable contacts, easy access to Facebook and email, as well as Peep - a new application for synchronisation with Twitter.

HTC Sense was also highlighted, the touchscreen interface of the unit that also features a light sensor that automatically display brightness.

"As a new Windows phone, the HTC HD2 showcases the powerful messaging, browsing and productivity capabilities delivered by Windows Mobile 6.5," the firm concluded.

Julie Snape, head of marketing for Envirofone.com, has since emphasised the importance of recycling old handsets when replacing them with such models.

"The shelf life of mobile phones is getting shorter every year," she said. "So it's really important that we recycle the phones that get left behind – don't just throw it into a lonely drawer, get recycling!"

The manufacturer's other devices include the Magic and Hero - both of which use the Google Android platform.
