O2 boosts network and customer services

Consumers recycling mobile phones for a handset on O2 could see services improve, if a new announcement is to be believed.

The carrier, which boasts smartphone solutions like the Palm Pre and Apple iPhone 3G among its range, said this week it would be putting more investment into improving its infrastructure.

It advised that this would include "hundreds of millions of pounds" that would be put into boosting its radio network and would see the development of 200 new sites in London over the next year.

Derek McManus, chief technology officer for the group, explained it was essential for the firm to address the fact that the mobile services would continue to grow so it could continue to deliver the best performance possible.

"We are now aggressively accelerating our network growth programme to ensure we have significant headroom for the future and retain our focus on being number one for customer satisfaction," he added.

Those recycling mobile phones to buy an Apple device also now have the option to purchase on through Orange, with Vodafone expecting to stock such handsets in the new year.
