How Long Do iPhone Batteries Normally Last?

Every iPhone has a battery life, and as the phone gets older the battery will naturally begin to get slower therefore meaning the charge of the phone will begin to drop. On average, your iPhone battery should perform perfectly for 2-3 years, after this, you may begin to see some changes. In this blog, we take a look at what reasons your iPhone may be losing battery health and how you can check. Let’s go.

What is the meaning of battery health?

Another way to spot if your battery is decreasing is by checking your phone's battery health in settings. Battery health is a section in settings which includes information on the maximum battery capacity and peak performance capability. Maximum battery health is the key aspect that you want to focus on, it gives you a percentage out of 100 with 100%, of course, meaning full battery health.

  • Maximum battery capacity – Measures the device's battery capacity compared to when the device was new.
  • Peak performance capability – Limits the speed of the processor so you don’t have unexpected shutdowns.

As your phone gets older, the battery health percentage will decrease, if the battery goes below 80%, the phone's battery is no longer classed as ‘good’. The 80% mark typically occurs within 2 years and if this happens it doesn’t mean you have a bad phone more the fact your iPhone battery isn’t up to date. To access your iPhone's battery health, go to Settings – Battery – Battery Health. Here you’ll see your iPhone's maximum battery capacity percentage plus your phone will tell you what state your battery health is in. (Good, normal, bad)

What battery health should my iPhone be at?

Unfortunately, whilst we’d love to provide a chart documenting on average what battery health percentage you should have for each iPhone in 2025, this is impossible. Each iPhone battery is completely dependent on how often you use the phone, what phone type you have, and what apps you use. You might use an iPhone 15 daily but only use a couple of apps or go on the same phone once a week and sit on Netflix for 5 hours at a time, these two phones would have completely different battery health percentages.

The only piece of advice we can give for working out what battery health percentage your phone should be is this, iPhone 14 phones and earlier are designed to hold 80% of their original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles on average. iPhone 15 phones and later models are designed to hold 80% of their original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles on average according to Apple's official website.
