What is the May 7 Apple announcement?

On April 23rd, 2024, Apple announced their upcoming tech event, the Apple Let Loose Event. Set for May 7th, 2024, the event will be streamed on apple.com. As of yet, there has been no mention as to what will be revealed at the event, however, many Apple fans have already given their opinions which we can already guess are more than likely correct. So let’s have a look at the rumoured speculation about Apple's latest event reveal and give our thoughts too.

What will be in the new Apple event?

The first clue as to what the Apple Event could be about starts with the event's promotional graphic. The artistic graphic shows a hand holding a pencil with different colours surrounding the pencil in the shape of the company’s iconic Apple logo. From this graphic, it feels apparent that the event will focus on the Apple iPad and even a possible release of a new Apple Pencil.

The last Apple iPad was released 2 years ago back in 2022, so it feels like the right time for an event to be created to specifically dedicate to a new iPad 2024 release. Also, Apple mentioned earlier this year that they are in development to create 2 new iPads for 2024, the iPad Air and iPad Pro, so again, this makes those rumours much stronger.

Focussing on the other possible main highlight, the last Apple Pencil, the USB-C edition, was released over 5 months ago in November 2023, so could we see news of an upgraded pencil being revealed?

Is Apple coming out with a new iPad?

• 2 new iPad models announced – iPad Air 2024 and 2024 iPad Pro.
• iPads Pro will have the M3 chip, OLED displays, matte screen option, and MagSafe wireless charging.
• Possibility of a thinner design with thinner bezels.
• iPad Pro camera will have a landscape-oriented front camera besides the usual landscape ultra-wide camera.
• iPad Air will have an M2 chipset, possibly with the first-ever mini-LED display for a 12.9” iPad. 
• May see a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro offering a larger trackpad.

Will there be a new Apple Pencil in 2024?

Due to the graphic promoting the event, we are assuming that a new apple pencil will be revealed. 

Currently, there are three Apple Pencils available that all have different features and functions:

• Apple Pencil 1st Gen - 2015
• Apple Pencil 2nd Gen - 2021
• Apple Pencil USB-C – 2023

Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of Apple, actually helped to push these rumours along by posting onto X formally known as Twitter, ‘Pencil us in for May 7th’, further masking the rumours of a new Apple Pencil much more believable. 

We assume that a new iPad Apple pencil would be compatible with the upcoming iPad releases and will be mentioned after the rumoured highlight of the event, the iPads. Fans are assuming the new pencil will offer better precision, higher pressure sensitivity and lower latency. We can’t wait to find out more!
