Best Summer Apps: Part 2
Summer tends to bring out the best in our phones — suddenly they’re not just for messaging or scrolling, but for planning trips, booking last-minute days out and making the most of the sunshine. If you enjoyed our first round-up, here’s part two with a fresh batch of apps worth having on your home screen this season.
Sunshine and Weather Apps
There are loads of weather apps, but the ones worth keeping are the ones that help you decide whether it’s a BBQ day or a duvet day. Apps like Met Office Weather or Today Weather are great at breaking things down hour-by-hour, which is ideal when you’re deciding whether to drive to the coast or play it safe at home.
Outdoor Adventure & Mapping
If you're planning walks, hikes or exploring somewhere new, apps like Komoot or AllTrails are lifesavers. They give route ideas, difficulty levels and offline maps in case you lose signal halfway up a hill. And if you’ve recently upgraded your phone for better battery life on long days out, you might still get something back for your old one — you can check its value here.
Travel and Transport Helpers
Summer is full of spontaneous trips, so having a few travel apps stored can save you a lot of hassle. Trainline for quick rail tickets, Uber for late-night journeys after a pub garden trip, and Citymapper if you’re exploring a new city. They all minimise faff so you can spend more time actually enjoying yourself.
Food, Drinks and Days Out
It wouldn’t be summer without finding new spots to eat and socialise. Apps like OpenTable make it easier to grab last-minute reservations, while Too Good To Go is brilliant if you’re out and about and fancy picking up surplus bakery treats for pennies. If you’re taking photos of your summer food adventures, an iPhone with a decent camera always helps — and older devices can be traded in easily through Envirofone’s Apple section.
Fitness and Getting Active
Strava, Nike Training Club and FitOn all get a lot more use once the sun comes out. Whether it’s running around the park, cycling to work or doing a quick workout in the garden, these apps keep things interesting without needing a gym membership.
Photo and Video Editing on the Go
Summer photos always end up being the ones we look back on. Apps like Teal & Orange, Snapseed and CapCut can make simple photos look professional with just a few taps. If your current phone is struggling with editing or storage, it might be time to recycle an old device or sell it on — Samsung models especially still hold decent value, and you can check them here.
Whether you’re travelling, relaxing or planning a full calendar of adventures, having the right apps on your phone makes summer feel a little easier — and a lot more fun.
